The Seismology Institute developed the map of common seismic zoning

Seismology Institute scientists under the direction of Doctor of technical sciences T. Abakanov studied the lithosphere of the territory of Kazakhstan. In the framework of study it was developed the map of seismogenerating zones, or regional seismotectonic model of zones of earthquake origin as the basis of common seismic zoning of the republic’s territory.


In the age of information, when volume, flow and access to operational information increases every day, the issue of selection of scientific information, objective, relevant and reliable becomes one of the fundamental for scientists. However, in the vast ocean of scientific information, according to the different estimates of analysts, only 14% of necessary materials for scientific research are in free access, but the bulk, 86% of scientific knowledge is closed and access to it is possible only through the paid subscription.  In order to improve the quality and integration of domestic science into the world scientific community, in 2011 Kazakhstan signed a subscription to the authoritative international databases of Clarivate Analitics (formerly intellectual property and science division of Thomson Reuters) and Springer Nature. The effectiveness of access to these resources, free for domestic scientists, in an interview with K. Akhatova, the head of the department for access to international resources of scientific and technical information of JSC “NCSSTE”.

The Chinese electronics manufacturer will start producing home appliances for mining

Chinese home appliance maker Midea plans to produce electric instruments with the function of mining. It is reported dedicated to mining cryptocurrency site CoinDesk. Midea Group, one of China’s leading manufacturers of electronics, decided to patent the appliances with the function of mining at the end of 2016, which submitted the corresponding application, but drew attention to it just now.

Virtual Reality for Freely Moving Animals

Experiments that place untethered fish, flies, and mice in simulated environments give clues about the animals’ social behavior. Flies, fish, and mice can now enter virtual reality (VR) without being tied down. European researchers have developed a set-up for freely moving animals that may offer more detailed insight into how animals’ brains work in social situations. They describe the system today (August 21) in Nature Methods.

Exoskeletons will allow to improve the mobility of children with cerebral palsy

Cerebral palsy is a chronic non-progressive motor violation, usually resulting from lesions or anomalies in brain development in the perinatal period of fetal development. In the result of cerebral palsy usually suffer from a General mental activity of the child and his ability to move. And this kid can’t do and survive without the help of adults. The staff of the National Institute of health has developed and is currently testing an exoskeleton that can make the patients with cerebral palsy children more independent and mobile.
