Continuous training and improvement

The beginning of September is associated with the Day of Knowledge, commencement of the new academic year. The National Center, following these good traditions, sent a group of its experts to the Kaizen Quality Management Training Seminar.
In recent years this Japanese system is gaining popularity worldwide meaning "continuous improvement." One of the most famous tools is Kaizen 5S system named after the first letters of Japanese words with the English equivalent:

Kazakhstan – UK

Kazakhstan – Region – Oskemen Research integration: Kazakhstan – UK On 12-14 March 2014 D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan State Technical University will accommodate a Round Table entitled Research Assessment and Selection System. Strengthening Partnership in Research organized jointly with the «National Center of Science and Technology Evaluation» (National Center) and British Council with support of the RoK Ministry of Education and Science (RoK MES).

Inter-organizational Integration on Research Bibliometry Knowledge Exchange

On 10 April 10 2014 The «National Center of Science and Technology Evaluation»(the National Center) held a seminar addressing the knowledge exchange in the area of research bibliometry attended by a number of Ministries and national higher schools including: Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Healthcare, Ministry of Agriculture, Nazarbayev University etc.

The seminar’s key goal is to integrate into the international research community and improve the local science potential through access to resources of world bibliometry leaders and largest publishers of academic journals and books –Elsevier and Taylor & Francis. Elsevier’s Scival specializing in research literature is a powerful solution enabling to conduct analysis including benchmarking across broad research disciplines. E.g., analysis of quantity of research publications for the recent 5 years for Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries has suggested Kazakhstan’s leadership with as many 1511 articles followed by Azerbaijan with 700 publications. However, the overall picture is not encouraging. Number of publications has to exceed the average world level (conditionally equal to 1) to ensure that our science contributes to the global science development. Regretfully, nor us neither our neighbor Russia has overcome this threshold so far. In this regard, the Wheel of Science, a powerful and visually interesting function clearly showing the spread of publications by subjects should be mentioned. Today medicine is the world-leading subject area. For example, Israel leads in terms of agricultural research publications – the area of priority for Kazakhstan. According to Elsevier, there are currently 2 trends in the world of science: growth of articles in multidisciplinary areas and joint publications. Following these trends may help Kazakhstan significantly improve its level. Despite that Kazakhstan has had collaboration experience with scientific literature publishers such as Elsevier, Taylor & Francis’ presentation has apparently become a discovery of the year as its research interests embrace social, humanitarian and behavioral sciences. This publishing house publishes over 1,800 journals on 19 disciplines jointly with 500 communities and institutions. Their most popular products are online journal archive and the combined library. This server is of high interest for humanists. T&F proposals were recently submitted to the RoK MES.
